Lab Tech (Part-Time)

Position Summary

The Lab Tech is responsible for performing analysis on clinical specimens for the purpose of providing accurate information to the healthcare provider for the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of the patient’s condition. The Lab Tech assures the quality of test data as well as providing information on the validity and significance of test results to contribute to the best outcome for the patient.

Accountabilities

  • Prioritizes workflow by medical necessity and priority to provide timely lab results to the healthcare provider.

  • Performs all phlebotomy and urine collection procedures correctly to ensure quality specimens for testing.

  • Demonstrates safe and competent use of lab equipment, including maintenance and troubleshooting, to correctly perform testing of specimens.

  • Analyzes specimens according to laboratory procedures including appropriate quality assurance and quality control to provide accurate test results.

  • Executes use of software appropriately to ensure correct reporting of test results.

  • Actively participates in instrument training, educational opportunities, and quality assurance projects to improve patient outcomes.

  • Assists in implementing new procedures or instrumentation to improve quality and availability of tests performed.

  • Maintains lab functions and duties while working alone, when necessary, to ensure continuity of care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A baccalaureate degree or associate degree in medical technology from an accredited program.

  • Certification with ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathology) or AMT (American Medical Technologists). Certification received in 2004 or later must maintain a minimum of 36 contact hours of continuing education every three years.
