March 8th is International Women's Day!
Sponsored by Senior Life Solutions at Gothenburg Health
March 8th is International Women’s Day. In honor of the women in our community, Gothenburg Health’s Senior Life Solutions team would like to highlight some of the unique aspects that pertain to women and mental health.
Recent statistics show that more than one in five U.S. women have experienced a mental health condition such as depression or anxiety, and some mental health conditions such as depression and bipolar disorder affect more women than men or affect women differently than men (OASH, 2022).
One way that women experience mental health conditions differently than men is through their symptoms. The National Institute of Mental Health says certain symptoms manifest more often or more intensely in women, including:
- Aches, headaches, or digestive problems
- Appetite and/or weight changes
- Decreased energy
- Excessive fear or worry
If you notice an older woman struggling with any of the symptoms above, or if she is experiencing other challenges with her mental health, consider making a referral to the Senior Life Solutions program. Referring someone to our program is easy – simply give us a call at 308-537-1030. No diagnosis is needed.
Our care team will speak with the referred individual, introduce ourselves, and discuss the service we provide. We will then set up a confidential appointment to assess them for care. Whether through our program or another service within the community, we will work diligently to identify and address any unmet mental health needs.
If you have any questions or would like additional information, please feel free to give us a call at 308-537-1030.
Gothenburg Health’s Senior Life Solutions, looks forward to working with you in the fight for better mental health!
