The Gothenburg Pony Express Foundation recently donated $55,000 to the Gothenburg Hospital Foundation to be used toward the community YMCA Building. “The Pony Express Foundation really stepped up in a big way,” stated Becky Jobman, Gothenburg Health Foundation Director, “This is a perfect example of Gothenburg working together to accomplish an incredible goal.”
The Pony Express Foundation was incorporated in 1993, and was created to be used as a tool for donations for community projects. The Foundation has several accounts which include the Boy Scouts, Living Out Loud, Rise Against Hunger and many others. This donation was made from the unrestricted funds account of the Foundation.
Members of the Foundation include Chair Bruce Clymer, Treasurer Anne Anderson, Travis Anderson, Lisa Jorgenson, Joe Libal, Tim Strauser, Kris Loostrom, Will Rahjes, Matt Olsen, and Pam Slack.
According to Bruce Clymer, "We had money available in the account for a long time and felt that now was the time to support the Hospital Foundation in their efforts. We are excited to donate this money to such a worthwhile project."
The Pony Express Foundation continues to be a vehicle for projects within the community. If you have a project, please contact one of the board members. If you would like to donate to the Pony Express Foundation, a deposit to the Foundation may be made at Gothenburg State Bank.
Groundbreaking for the $4.95 million project has occurred and completion is scheduled for April 2018. The YMCA will be connected to Gothenburg Health as part of a joint project featuring a hospital renovation and expansion. The Gothenburg YMCA will have year-round recreation opportunities for all ages and socio-economic backgrounds. When complete, the facility will include a gymnasium; swimming pool; an indoor walking track; a wellness center with weights and cardio machines; a spacious group exercise room; men’s, women’s and family locker rooms; a fun and educational child watch room, and a comfortable social lobby with free Wi-Fi access. In addition to all these planned components, there will be an abundance of educational space which include the potential for mentorship programs, early childhood development, after-school programs and career development opportunities for students; depending on community wants and needs.
